The story behind the mission
Laura’s life inspired a lasting response.
Trudy Harsh founded The Brain Foundation after navigating the housing challenges faced by her daughter Laura, who lived with a serious brain disease. The experience revealed a gap that many families know well: treatment and support are not enough when a person does not have a stable, affordable place to live.
The Foundation was created in 2003 as an all-volunteer charitable organization. Its work grew from one family’s concern into a network of homes serving adults in Northern Virginia.
