Current Financial Support
The first “Laura's House at Wilcoxson” was established in November 2006 with 100% financing from the Virginia Housing and Development Authority and opened further avenues of support. Several grants have been received: the Northern Virginia Regional Grant, Philip Graham Fund, Reston's Giving Circle of Hope, Community Foundation for Northern Virginia, and the United Way.
In September 2008, The Brain Foundation (TBF) was certified by Fairfax County as a Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO) and became eligible for HOME funds through HUD. These are zero interest loans of about $250,000 with no payments as long as we rent to very low income residents. Fairfax County has also awarded TBF four CDBG loans through HUD of $200,00- $300,000 through FY 2014 from the Consolidated Community Funding Pool.
While the challenge of sustaining the unfunded costs of this operation is great, TBF expects continued contributions to be forthcoming. TBF has been approved to participate in the United Way as #8594, the Combined Federal Campaign as #56716 and the Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign as #8278.
